1969 Baseball -

Miracle Mets, Expansion & the 660 Card Classic from Topps

In 1969, the Major Leagues expanded to 24 teams, split into four divisions, and marveled as the formerly inept Mets overtook the Cubs to win their division, defeated Hank Aaron's Braves to advance to the World Series, and shocked the heavily favored Orioles to win the World Series. Batting averages soared as the mound was lowered to reverse the trend which peaked in 1968 with McLain's 31 wins and Gibson's 1.12 ERA. Billy Martin debuted in the dugout and the player hold-outs of Donn Clendenon and Hawk Harrelson hinted of things to come in the 70s.

We recently acquired a super high PSA graded set from this popular year. To commemorate the 35th anniversary of this classic baseball season, we put this classic set and season in our featured set spotlight. Our feature is divided into the four chapters.

After you enjoy our features, you can check out our inventory from the classic 1969 Topps set.

FEATURED SETS

Pre-War & Forties Food & Regionals     1967 Topps Baseball New Set Break
Fifties Inserts

Topps delivered one of their finest efforts with the 67 Baseball set. The most popular set of the 60's - this gem has clear, and sharp photos, condition rarities and tough single prints. The set features the premier rookie card for the 60s, the high number Tom Seaver rookie, along with rookie cards of Mark Belanger, Joe Niekro and HOFer Rod Carew. The high number series is significantly more difficult to find than the other series, especialy single print cards such as Red Sox team, Rocky Colavito and Brooks Robinson.

How ironic that the two benchmark sets in the hobby came out in 1952. Much like the classic 52 Topps, the 52 Bowman Large FB set is the benchmark for all football cards. Featuring an incredible selection of rookies, impossible short prints, and large, beautifully drawn images, the 52 Bowman FB is a classic!
