1961-62 Shiriff Coins Shirriff issued its 2nd set of hockey coins in 1961-62 inside boxes of its desserts. Unlike the previous issues, this set of 120 were plastic - similar to the popular baseball issue. The coins are extremely condition sensitive due to the design - but with the inclusion of a full 20 players per team, they provide a terrific reminder of pre-expansion hockey. |
1962-63 Shiriff Coins
Shirriff issued its third set of hockey coins in 1962-63 inside boxes of its desserts. Unlike the previous issues, this set of 60 were metal coins rather than plastic. The company also cut back its issue size from 120 to 60, dropping the American teams except in the All-Star sub-series. |
1963
York White BacksThis set of 54 octagonal cards were issued with York Peanut butter and York Salted nuts in 1963. An album was originally issued for holding the cards. The set features most of the big stars of the day including Howe, Beliveau and Sawchuk. The clean design and informative reverse makes this set a collector favorite. |
1969 OPC 4-1 BookletsThe 1969-70 OPC Four-In-One set was designed to be seperated and then stuck into small team booklets. There were twelve booklets, one for each team, and they featured player info and a facsimile of the stamp photo in order to assist kids of the day in placing the stickers inside the appropiate spot in the album. Like the stickers, the booklets are very difficult to find in nice condition. |
1970-71 OPC Deckle InsertsOPC issued these black and white photo "deckles" in the 2nd series wax packs of its 1970-71 hockey set. Patterned after the 1969 Topps baseball insert, the 48 candid photos featured many of the games current and former greats.
