1909 E91-B American Carmel The E91set was issued by American Caramel from 1908 through 1910 in three distinct Sets: A, B and C. The A Series features checklists on the reverse showing players from the Athletics, Giants and Cubs; the B Series shows the same three teams with the order reverse; and Set C shows the Pirates, Red Sox and Senators. Each series is complete at 33 cards. A quick check of the PSA population report shows this seldom-seen issue is scarce in any grade |
1911 T-3 Turkey Red 1911 Turkey Red Cabinet cards were distributed as a premium in exchange for coupons found in Turkey Red, Fez and Old Mill brand cigarettes. The cards measure an over-sized 5 3/4" by 8" - a size known to collectors as Cabinet Cards. The cards feature a full color lithograph front and wide grey frames. Backs carried either a numbered checklist or an ad for Turkey Red cigarettes - the latter bringing a 1.5 times premium due to its scarcity. The set consists of 100 baseball players and 25 boxers. |

SET BREAK - #2 SET ON PSA REGISTRY 1927 York Caramels Type 2 (E210) York Caramels issued this unusual set in 1927. York Caramels appear to have been regionally issued, as they are rarely found outside of the Pennsylvania area. The PSA population report bears out this scarcity - as a total of only 123 examples have been slabbed from this 60 card issue. In additon, individual psa slabbed cards are rarely seen in the market - just over 20 percent of the set has been sold on ebay or in catalogs over the past 5 years! The type 1 version is nearly 6 times more common that this vintage rarity! |
1934 Gold Medal Gold Medal Foods issued this set of 12 blank-backed cards to commemorate the 1934 World Series. The set features 6 players from the Cardinals and 6 players from the Tigers and was available only via mail. Of course, this 1934 World Series was the famous Gas House Gang contest, making this difficult regional issue a collector favorite. |

1934 Butterfinger Cards in this set were available as a premium with Butterfinger and other candy products. The unnumbered cards measure approximately 7-3/4 inches by 9-1/2 inches and can be found printed either on paper or heavy cardboard. The black and white cards feature a player photo with facsimile autograph. |
1940 Play Ball Following the success of its initial set in 1939, Gum Inc. issued a bigger and better set in 1940. The 240 black-and-white cards are 2 1/2" by 3 1/8" with front photos enclosed by a frame with the player's name. A number of former stars were issued along with the contemporary players, including a scarce Joe Jackson card. The high numbers in the set are the most difficult to obtain. |
